Our Clinical Director and President, Sarah Skea, is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner licensed in the state of Illinois as an Advanced Practice Nurse. Sarah graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League institution, ranked by "US News & World Report" as the #1 university in the United States for nursing education.
Sarah is highly experienced in working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. She carries with her an extensive history of practicing at a myriad of clinical sites while working for a highly regarded organization, which is renowned for excellent psychiatric care throughout the state of New Jersey.
Sarah's work history is both exciting and powerful; she is equipped with the skills and network to maintain advanced knowledge of psychopharmacology and therapeutic modalities while incorporating new, innovative customized care with the aim of making psychiatry more accessible and focused on meeting your individual needs.
She has a history of providing outpatient medication management for children and adolescents, psychiatric consultations for three hospitals in Western New Jersey, inpatient acute psychiatric treatment for adults on voluntary and involuntary units, and treatment of incarcerated individuals in five correctional facilities throughout New Jersey. She has also worked with children and adolescents (ages 3 to 17) in partial day programs and intensive outpatient evening programs.
Sarah has also worked full-time as an advanced practice nurse for a child and adolescent inpatient crisis unit, in an award-winning medical center, where she gained advanced knowledge and experience treating acute psychiatric conditions within this highly specialized population.
Values Based Psychiatry first began as an aspiration that Sarah dreamed of in June of 2012; most Saturdays, she spent time developing a potential website and thinking of the core values that she wished to incorporate into her treatment approach. By May of 2013, Values Based Psychiatry was running smoothly and began to emerge as a well-known practice throughout New Jersey, serving clients in offices in Princeton and Red Bank.
Although Values Based Psychiatry experienced great success on the East Coast, Sarah made a permanent decision to relocate back to the area where she grew up in the Midwest, and she has established Values Based Psychiatry in St. Charles near her hometown of Batavia, Illinois with the aim of continuing her mission of providing excellent patient focused psychiatric services.
During this transition from New Jersey to Illinois, Sarah has ambitiously and actively reached out into local (and not so local) communities to provide contract coverage for facilities that are in need of temporary services. This experience has been a foundational part of Sarah's ability to grow professionally and personally, and she looks forward to bringing the knowledge that she has acquired back to her private practice.
Sarah's role within Values Based Psychiatry includes the provision of psychiatric services including therapy and medication management for our clients.
At this time, Sarah is the only prescribing clinician at Values Based Psychiatry, but a therapist has joined her in the building as of 2019, which has provided a positive opportunity for collaboration between providers.
