Information Regarding Prescriptions And Refills
Importance of Office Visits
-
Prescriptions are provided during your office visits. Therefore, we encourage you to please assess your potential need for a prescription before each and every visit whether your visits are two times per week, once a week, every other week, once monthly, once every two months, etc. Please notify your clinician for renewal prescriptions at the beginning of your appointment so that they can be completed in a timely fashion.
-
Your clinician at Values Based Psychiatry can only provide prescriptions while actively involved in your care; therefore, refills cannot be provided for clients who have missed an appointment and have not rescheduled.
-
Please schedule your follow up appointment online prior to submitting a refill request.
-
Prescriptions required between appointments will be provided at your clinician’s discretion and require an online booking request and payment for this service. Please keep this fee in mind when you find the need to reschedule an appointment.
-
If you require a prescription prior to a scheduled appointment, it may be beneficial to consider booking an appointment online or calling the office to request to meet sooner than your originally scheduled appointment since a postponement in scheduling may result in running out of a medication prematurely.
-
Scheduling an appointment is most likely the fastest way to obtain your prescription since it is provided at the time of your visit.
-
Prescription refills are handled during our administrative office hours which are Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm (please note, clinical hours extend beyond this time frame but are only applicable for clients who have scheduled appointments that day).
-
Values Based Psychiatry seeks to work with you to discuss your symptoms and medications to obtain the best outcomes. We strive to help you achieve your goals by seeing you weekly, every other week, or monthly so that your clinician is able to assess and monitor your progress and make appropriate treatment recommendations.
Office Visits & Follow Up Appointments
-
Given that psychiatric symptoms can be highly variable, we recommend that all stable clients follow up every 3 months if this schedule is agreed upon with you and your clinician.
-
For clients with symptoms that persist, appointments are recommended on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis until your symptoms stabilize.
-
At each appointment, the recommended follow-up time frame will be agreed upon and prescriptions will be sent electronically to your pharmacy to last until your next appointment.
-
It is important for prescriptions to be provided during your office visits. Therefore, we encourage you to assess your potential need for a prescription before each and every visit, whether your visits are two times per week, once a week, every other week, once monthly, once every two months, etc.
-
Please notify your clinician for renewal prescriptions and discuss questions regarding your medications at the beginning of your appointment so that they can be completed in a timely fashion.
-
Your appointments are an important part of your treatment so that your clinician is able to assess your symptoms, update your treatment goals, and adjust medications, as needed.
Prescription Refill Policy for Refill Requests Outside of an Appointment
-
If you need a prescription refill for a current medication, and you do not have an appointment in time to fulfill this need, please schedule online to submit your refill request.
-
Medication changes (such as an increase in medication or addition of a new medication) will not be made in between appointments (unless these arrangements have been agreed upon in advance during a prior session).
-
If it is determined that you are not eligible for a refill outside of a scheduled appointment will be provided, a refund will be provided for this online booking.
Urgent Refill Requests for Controlled Substances
-
Values Based Psychiatry requires monthly appointments for clients receiving controlled substances.
-
Values Based Psychiatry does not provide early refills for controlled substances and provides no more than a 30 day supply of medication for each month.
-
Values Based Psychiatry utilizes the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program to determine when controlled substances are filled and will check the database prior to issuing prescriptions.
-
All requests for controlled substances will be issued as a 5-day emergency supply and a scheduled appointment is required within 5 days of this request.
-
Please be sure to book your appointment online first.
-
When scheduling your refill request, please select the option that pertains to controlled substances.
-
Due to the risk of withdrawal, depending on the type of medication and dose and length of treatment, all controlled substance requests will be processed and submitted electronically to your pharmacy with 12 hours.
